Lance-Lot can substantially improve the production and
stocking strategy of any manufacturing company that produces in lots, and that
has a say in how big these lot sizes should be. This includes:
- All make to stock companies that produce in lots;
- All make to order companies that can combine various customer's
orders together to optimize efficiency;
- Industries, such as pharmaceutical manufacturers, where the lot
size is predetermined and validated, who must, at one time or
another, decide what that lot size should be.
Lance-Lot can't intervene
It can't intervene on continuous flow manufacturers where it is always
the same product that is produced, and where set-ups are consequently not
an issue, and companies where each customer's order represents a unique
production item, that can therefore not be combined with the quantities
ordered by another customer. Note however, that often in these environments,
some components are repetitively manufactured in lots, and the production and
stocking of these lot-based components can be optimized by Lance-Lot.
Because Lance-Lot is the only known decision-enabling
tool capable of optimizing the production and stocking strategy of a product
mix, it can achieve significant payback in any company that has a say in its
lot-sizing policies simply because these have never been optimized before.
It basically comes down to the fact that a rigorous optimization
always does better than a rule of thumb.
