- Lance-Lot determines the right
lot sizes and inventory level parameters for
each item in a product family based on the
optimizing constraints. Lance-Lot
calculates the impact of these lot-sizes on
stock turns and product family lead-times.
- Lance-Lot allows the planner to generate an
unlimited number of scenarios that each explores
a "what-if" simulation of what would be
the expected impacts of a given manufacturing
strategy on key management metrics such as stock
turns, efficiency and lead-times.
- Scenarios can be saved, renamed, modified and re-run
to allow the planner to investigate the impact of
any planned or actual change in the environment on
work center loading and flexibility.
- The scenario that shows itself to be the best
compromise between the conflicting objectives of
efficiency, lead-times and stock turns can be
saved and implemented in the form of revised
planning parameters calculated by Lance-Lot
to be used by the regular planning system.
These implemented scenarios can be saved
indefinitely to provide an audit trail of past
decisions, as well as their context and justification.
- Lance-Lot's optimization process is
based on or considers:
- The bottleneck work center's capacity and production
sequencing constraints.
- Constraints such as limits on the number of set-ups
possible per week, or "lead-time to customer"
constraints.
- The demand on each item in the product mix, at any
point in the planning horizon, and for any length of
planning horizon.
- Item-level lot sizing constraints.
- The lead-times inherent to the manufacturing logistics.
- Storage, set-up and setting costs.
- Management objectives (stock turnover, lead-times
and flexibility, efficiencies, etc.)
- Lance-Lot supports alternative lot-sizing
approaches designed either to minimize lead-times
across a bottleneck operation, or to reduce the
total cost of inventory and set-ups. Moreover,
a user-defined lot-sizing logic may be specified
to compare a traditional lot-sizing approach to Lance-Lot's
optimized lot-sizing algorithms. The user-defined lot-size can
also be implemented while advantage of Lance-Lot's
lot-size impact validation process.
- Lance-Lot's proven algorithms ensure that
the consolidated impact of the lot sizing and
inventory policies for all of the items are
feasible and acceptable based on declared work
center constraints. This guarantees that the
production strategy supports and fulfills the
customer service objectives while maintaining a
balanced inventory strategy.
- Lance-Lot bridges the gap between MRPII/ERP/APS,
JIT (Just-In-Time) and TOC (Theory-Of-Contraints)
to reduce inventories, increase through-put and
improve customer service.
- Lance-Lot supports an advanced implementation
of the Kanban technique as well as MRPII/ERP/APS systems
by dynamically suggesting stocking and lot sizing
strategies which balance product family mix and
demand with operational constraints.
